Theory: Symbolic Interaction Describe what the inequality is using at least three sources. Use statistics from the US Census Bureau, the Center for Disease Control , The National Center for Education Statistics, The FBI crime statistics or another federal reporting agency (which can be found online) to report the current state of inequality in your specific institution. Federal Statistics Database (opens in new window) at www.fedstats.gov is a good place to start. Be sure to provide appropriate and extensive demographic information on age, race, income, gender etc. If there are differences in this topic in different demographic groups, this should be noted. Read at least TWO relevant academic journal articles to describe the history and current status of the inequality. The more data provided, the higher the grade. Throughout your paper, use a sociological theory (Conflict, Symbolic Interaction, Functionalism or otherwise) to inform your discussion about the inequality. Use sources and/or your critical thinking skills to make a thoughtful and specific intervention suggestion as to how we could address this inequality in the United States. Students whose intervention clearly corresponds with their chosen theory will earn the highest number of points in this section.
