Research reports can take on several different formats. Since you are creating this report individually, the aim is to have a brief and succinct research report that is a maximum of 4 pages in length. The report should cover all elements as outlined by theCFA Institute Equity Research Report Essentialsguide. In your report, some of these elements might only be a block that contains selected information while other sections would be more detailed. All Equity Research Reports should contain the following information about the selected stock:
- Basic information;
- Business description;
- Industry overview and competitive positioning;
- Investment summary;
- Valuation;
- Financial analysis;
- Investment risks; and
- Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) information.
Although theCFA Institute Equity Research Report Essentialsguideprovides comprehensive guidelines as to what should be included under each section of your report, some expectations for an undergraduate course are slightly more relaxed.
