Topic 1: Introduction: Researchers have highlighted the difficulties of providing conclusive evidence that HRM is linked to organisational performance. For instance, if an organisation is performing well, then any number of factors, aside from the way in which people are managed, could be influential. Equally, causality could be reversed. In other words, it may be the case that high levels of organisational performance could enable an organisation to put in place sophisticated approaches to managing people. Task: Draw on (1) theoretical frameworks that are used to explain the HRM-performance link and (2) empirical evidence from studies conducted in a range of national contexts and diverse organisational settings to make the case that investment in HRM does indeed have positive effects on organisational performance.
