Explanations offered for the dearth of African-American head football college coaches include interference by influential white alumni and fans that hinders the hiring of African-American head football coaches, the refusal of athletic administrators to admit that a problem exists in hiring procedures, and black coaches’ lack of experience because many did not play in central positions during college.
