Italian American media-watch groups such as the National Italian American Foundation have argued that shows such as The Sopranos (a fictionalized TV entertainment show now in syndication) reinforce negative stereotypes by portraying Italian Americans as criminals or bigots. Similarly, members of the white working class have been stereotyped as “trailer park trash” or as lacking the refinement of the middle and upper classes. Overall, however, far more stereotyping has occurred regarding Latinos/Latinas and African Americans.
