The following description summarizes participants in a study comparing emotional well-being for people who commuted to and from work by car with emotional well-being for those who bicycled to and from work. A total of 125 people commuted by car; 74 bicycled to work. The participants who commuted by car were primarily female (75%) and 11% were younger than 18 years, 52% were between 18 and 65 years old, and 37% were older than 65 years. The participants who bicycled were predominantly male (63%) and 37% were younger than 18 years, 49% were between 18 and 65 years old, and 14% were older than 65 years. Fifty percent of the participants who commuted by car were married; 37% were widowed, separated, or divorced; and 13% were never married. Forty-five percent of the participants who bicycled were married; 17% were widowed, separated, or divorced; and 38% were never married.
