Pick one issue (Some examples could be…. sexual harassment, high-turnover, outdated processes, unsafe work environment, ineffective communication, issues with diversity, issues with social media, etc.) in your organization, or an organization of your choosing, that is impacted by 2 of the 3 concepts below:
- Organizational Culture: How is your chosen issue negatively impacted by the workplace culture? How does the workplace culture exacerbate your issue?
- Leadership: How do you think leadership negatively impacts your chosen issue? What leadership style or characteristics further contribute to perpetuating your issue?
- Ethics: How does the ethical climate of the organization negatively contribute to this issue? What specific ethical principles are not being utilized, and therefore make the issue worse?
What are potential solutions to this issue? How will these solutions help the two components you chose to discuss? (I.e. culture, leadership or ethical climate)
Outline & Criteria for Final Research Paper:
This paper must be 6 to 8 pages in length (not including the cover page or reference page) and completed in APA format (6th edition). You must utilize the text, and 6 scholarly resources for this paper. Additionally,please provide a heading for each section. For example: “Introduction”; “Purpose Statement;” and so forth. This paper must include the following components:
- Cover page
- Introduction
The introduction section of a paper is intended to provide the background information that is essential for the reader to understand the nature and broad scope of the problem you have selected. For this section, you want to make sure it is clear to the reader the issue being examined. The introduction helps the reader better understand the focus of your research paper. The introduction is NOT intended to be exhaustive! Maximum: 3 paragraphs.
- Purpose Statement:
The purpose statement should be clear, concise, definitive, unambiguous and readily understood by anyone who reads it. Be sure to state the issue you will be discussing, and the 2 components you chose to discuss your issue with (i.e. culture, leadership and or ethics). Minimum: 2 to 3 sentences Maximum: 1 paragraph
- Analysis
In the analysis section you need to thoroughly discuss and critically analyze your chosen issue as it pertains to two, of the three components of organizational behavior (i.e. culture, leadership, ethics).
It is important to address the below questions (depending on which 2 components you chose) when writing your analysis:
- Organizational Culture: How is your chosen issue negatively impacted by the workplace culture? How does the workplace culture exacerbate your issue?
- Leadership: How do you think leadership negatively impacts your chosen issue? What leadership style or characteristics further contribute to perpetuating your issue?
- Ethics: How does the ethical climate of the organization negatively contribute to this issue? What specific ethical principles are not being utilized, and therefore make the issue worse?
Additionally, your analysis section should be organized and easy to understand. Paragraphs should be well- developed, and thoroughly address and provide connections between your issue, and the two components you chose to discuss your issue with. Make sure to incorporate theories/concepts from the text, as well as other resources to help substantiate your statements and further support your examples. Examples should be specific and not vague. Remember, do not focus on what “should” occur in this section, you want to focus on critically analyzing your issue. Maximum: 4 pages in length.
- Solutions/Recommendations
In this section you will discuss potential recommendations or solutions to your issue. It is not enough to just merely list your recommendations, you must explain the logic behind how the recommendations/solutions will potentially help the issue. Please make sure the solutions you provide, tie back to the examples provided in the analysis section. Maximum: one page in length.
- Conclusion
The conclusion must be succinct and concise, and wrap up the central theme of the paper.
