(a) A mixture of 65 mol% methanol(A) and 35 mol% water(B) is fed to a flash drum with the feed rate of 50 kmol/hr. The amount of vapor product coming out at the top of the drum is 32 kmol/hr. Given aAB = 4.8. (i) Determine the composition of the vapor and liquid products. (9 marks) (ii) Determine how the feed rate affect the vapor concentration if the fraction of the feed that is vaporize, f remained unchanged. Justify by providing the operating line of this system. (4 marks) (b) A treated ore containing inert solid gangue and copper sulfate (CuSO4) is to be leached in a countercurrent single stage extractor using pure water as solvent. The solid charge rate per hour is 2000 kg that consists of 82% of inert gangue, 12% of CuSO4, and 6% of water. A total of 95% of the CuSO4 in the inlet ore is to be recovered. Calculate the amount and composition of overflow leaving streams if equal amount of solvent is used. Assume N for the slurry underflow is constant.
