You will have to write a 4-6 page paper analyzing Frederick Douglass’s The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. Your paper should discuss the development of slavery in the United States in the 19th century and the abolitionist movement that developed in response to the growing institution. How did slavery impact African Americans, both slave and free, and how did they respond to these affects? Explain the various ways that African Americans tried to expand their opportunities in America since the American Revolution through the 1850s. Like the response paper, students must develop their own thesis and should also incorporate the assigned articles in Voices of Freedom and other supplementary primary source readings in addition to Frederick Douglass’s Narrative to support their argument. This is not a book report. Students must use the primary source documents in their paper to help support their argument.
Papers must be typed, double-spaced with 12-point font (Times or Times New Roman) with 1-inch margins, and 4-6 pages in length. The paper must have a bibliography and all sources must be properly cited in either MLA
