Write a short research paper on an artist, movement, period, or subject. For example, research Alfredo Ramos Martinez, Cubism, Pre-Colombian art, or Landscape paintings. Anything is possible—ask your professor if you are not sure. You must discuss three artworks specifically. Write a paper in which you address the following:
1. Identify the Artist/Culture, Title, Date, media/materials, and approximate size for each artwork. 10 Points
2. In your writing, be sure to use appropriate art terminology. I am looking to see that you know how to use the vocabulary found in the textbook. For example, the Elements of Art/Design Principles, and correct techniques (like impasto or sfumato or cross-hatching). Do not use general words like “interesting” or “colorful”. Be specific. 10 Points
3. Describe, analyze and discuss each artwork, including: historical period, media, techniques, artist’s intentions/ideas/background, etc. 20 Points
4. Critique, compare and contrast the three artworks. 20 Points
5. Analyze the three works of art/artist(s), and share your own assumptions and thoughts or feelings about the artworks. 20 Points
6. Paper is cohesive and well-written with correct formatting (Chicago, APA or MLA), 6-7 pages (1750-2000 words). A Reference Page is required but does not count towards the word count/page requirement. You must have five references, one of which can be your textbook. 10 Points
7. Insert photos of the selected artworks. This does not count towards the word count/page requirement. 10 Points
