1. Familiarize yourself with how to interpret a DSC curve
• Onset temperature, Peak temperature
• Exothermic and endothermic
2. Using the DSC plots obtained(a separate document posted to BB) for different
compositions, plot the points for all liquidus and eutectic points for the cooling, and
heating on a temperature – composition graph. Using the equilibrium diagram
provided, indicate the same points for the equilibrium data.
3. Assuming all equilibrium lines are linear, draw the cooling and heating phase
diagram for the Bi-Sn System.
4. Other information about maximum solid solubility of Bi in Sn and Sn in Bi can be
obtained from calculated equilibrium diagram shown in Fig.3.
