It can be argued that Venkatesh’s study shows how the use of violence in a variety of situations becomes normalised. Using three distinct examples from the book, discuss the differing forms of violence described in the book, and show how it is, or is not, ‘normalised’ based on academic work/literature on this concept.

For each essay question you should:

a) include selective quotes from ‘Gang Leader for a Day’ either as material you are analysing in your answer or as material which illustrates your point when referring to examples. We suggest 3 such quotes will be sufficient. Make sure you include page number and clearly indicate they are quotes in line with Harvard referencing.
b) you should follow the Harvard style of referencing and use 3 academic articles to address the part of the question that asks you to make some links to other literature.
you are not limited to 3 articles, if you wish to cite more you may and similarly you are also welcome to cite academic books in addition to the three journal articles
c) use only academic references as your sources for comment.
