A sample outline business case from a previous student (for a different type of project) is included to help you visualise a layout. This sample is of an average standard, but contains many areas that could be improved on, and some errors related to referencing.
Outline Business Case & Charter – As a minimum. your outline business case and project charter should contain the following (you are free to add more headings if you consider this appropriate:

· Background
· Finance – Source of funds (or placeholder)
· Objectives and scope (in-scope and out-of-scope)
· Benefits
· Summary of stakeholder issues – with details included in an appendix if you choose to explore some stakeholder issues via a simulated engagement exercise
· Stakeholder management plan – with details included in an appendix
· Key milestones – with details of a high-level schedule included in an appendix (you can use the actual dates or you can set it in the future – it doesn’t really matter)
· Project Budget (be realistic using audit report information roughly adjusted for inflation)
· Risks – focusing on changes to scope, communication and stakeholder issues
· Assumptions, constraints and dependencies
· Project communications – with details included in an appendix
· Options considered
· Recommendations
