Process:

1. Read: Basil Moreau: Apostolic Missionary by Rev. James King, CSC

2. Review the handouts, “You Can Be Called” and “Moreau’s Vocation Story.”

3. As you read the biography of Basil Moreau think about the following questions:

A. What personal strengths did Moreau possess and utilize?

B. How did he experience a “summons” from the world to do something new or in a new way?

C. How did his call/vocation/life purpose develop, change or morph over time?

Find a quiet place and spend some time walking through the Examen process- reviewing the handouts also provided (also on Moodle).

a. Reflect with the process 3 or 4 times over the course of the next week.

4. Find a quiet place and spend some time reviewing your own life journey. Think about the ways that your journey has developed, changed or morphed.

5. Reflect on the following question: What are the dangers of being too narrowly focused in thinking about one’s vocation? What are the dangers of thinking that there is only one thing that I can do with my life?

Assignment:

Write a two page essay: Your essay will focus on the issue of the danger of being too narrowly focused in thinking about a vocation/calling/life purpose.

1) In your essay describe what you think some of the dangers could be.

2) Describe what Basil Moreau or another famous person might have “lost” or “deprived others of” if they did not remain open to their “calls” being deepened.

3) Speculate on what opportunities you might miss if you become too “stuck” in one vision for your future.

Guidelines:

1. Essay Length: two-pages, double spaced, Times New Roman 12.

2. No Title Page: A title page is not required. Provide your name, the assignment and the due date at the top of the first page using the model below.
