In this assignment, you will critique a sample of social media writing. Here is what you need to do:
Ø
Ø Choose any one social media channel used by this organization/brand and critique the writing in terms of the criteria given in
the table below. Preferably choose a channel that gives you enough written material to critique such as blogs and FB posts.
Ø Evaluate as many pieces of writing as you may need, so that you can write an effective critique, with a minimum of the following:
5 blog posts, 10 YouTube videos, 10 LinkedIn posts, 15 FB posts, 20 tweets, 20 Instagram posts, etc.
Ø Support your critique with evidence drawn from the chosen media channel; Submit evidence as printouts/screen shots with links
Ø Present your critique in the form of an essay with each of the five subheadings given in the table
Ø Paper must be neatly typed, not more than 2-2.5 pages double spaced Times New Roman font size 12 or approx. 750-800 words
Ø The rubric for evaluating this assignment will be posted on BlackBoard
Social Media Writing Evaluation Criteria
Strategic and enhanced content
• Content provides new resources or ideas that add value to the discussion by (a) building a focused argument around a specific issue or (b) asking a new related question or (c)
making an oppositional statement supported by personal experience or related research
• Content presents a focused and cohesive viewpoint that is substantiated by effective supporting examples or links to relevant, up-to-date websites or documents that
enhance the information presented.
Tone and style of writing
• Content is written in a style that is appealing and appropriate for the intended audience and a consistent voice is evident throughout.
• Writing reflects the organization/brand’s unique personality through expressive and carefully selected word choices that bring the topic to life.
• Content is creatively and fluently written to stimulate dialogue and commentary; appears spontaneous and not contrived
Public Engagement
• Organization/brand encourages user collaboration and engagement
• Consistently responds to user comments/user generated content with positive, respectful, and succinct comments while providing a meaningful addition to the
discussion.
Visual design
• Selects and inserts high quality graphics and multimedia when appropriate to enhance the content’s visual appeal and increase readability.
• Acknowledges all image and multimedia sources with captions or annotations.
Frequency & timeliness
• Updates media channel as often or more often than required; all posts are date-stamped and the most recent posts are placed at the top of the page.
Quality of writing
• Written responses are free of grammatical, spelling or punctuation errors.
