Sustainability audit of an existing residential building and site (1000- 1500 words)
- Aim
You are expected to demonstrate your understanding of sustainable development theory and practices by assessing how well an existing individual residential building, and the site it is located on, comply with sustainable practices.
- Background to the assignment
You will choose an existing residential building (e.g. your house or flat) and do an audit to determine the extent to which the building construction and design, and the lot utilisation conform to current sustainability practices in Australia. You will need to undertake research plus a review of the relevant sections of your study material before you will be able to complete this assignment. Two things you MUST do are to refer to your research in the text and to include visual material to augment your audit
In the assignment resources on StudyDesk you will find two tables:
- ● A working table with suggested audit elements. You can use this to make notes as you do your research. Elements may be added or deleted depending on their applicability to the building you have chosen. DO NOT submit this table as your assignment. It is just intended to help you organise your thoughts.
- ● The submission table is the prescribed format for the assignment. Set up your own document to reflect this format – DO NOT use the template as your version of the software might distort it.
- The task
Amend the working table to suit your needs. Make notes on it whilst working through the course content and other sources. Analyse and synthesise the information on the working table, and present it on the submission table. Your working table thus becomes your rough draft from which you distil to compile your submission table.
The audit should include:
- ● A note on the ownership of the assignment property. If necessary, permission from the owner to audit the property. The information you provide will only be used for assessment purposes.
- ● The body of your assignment will be made up of the different elements that you have selected from working table; researched, analysed and collated with properly captioned illustrations, plans or photographs for each element. You will have to summarise and be concise to stay within the word limit.
- ● A carefully worded Reflection (200 words) on what you have learned from executing this audit and how your attitudes and skills have changed. The Reflection is not part of the word count.
- ● Referencing format– APA6th format.
