For this activity you are to imagine that you hold the position of Manager Human Resources.  You have responsibility for ensuring that human resources services meet the needs of the organisation and of the line managers.

  1. Analyse the strategic and operational plans in order to determine and identify one or more human resources requirements of the organisation. These requirements may also include:

Your assessor will observe your individual and group interactions. By studying the Organisational Chart, you will be able to see all the relevant line manager roles. They can be the Academic Manager, the IT Manager, the Human Resources Manager, the Student Services Manager/Registrar, the Accounts Manager and the Marketing Manager. During this consultation ensure all objectives, objections and opinions are discussed and dealt with before the plan is developed).

 

Place yourself (and other group members,) into the role of the managers that will be affected by the strategic plan. Each member of your group should discuss the merits of the plan and decide which requirement you wish to utilise – for example, if you seek to employ a new marketing manager, discuss the role, the responsibilities and the challenges of the new position; what market will they approach, will they look at new places, what will they do to promote HBC?

 

  1. Write a recommendation for the line manager’s consideration that outlines a range of options for delivery of human resources services within their area. Research 3 legislative requirements that impact or influence HR program.

  1. Prepare and present an action plan and strategy for delivery of human resources services, documenting the roles of the relevant personnel. (The action plan should include five components: strategy, action, measurement, barriers and reporting).

 

  1. Document the roles and responsibilities of human resources team, line managers and any external service providers. Provide a report that outlines the roles of all stakeholders and the above agreement. The description of each role should include:
  • Position title
  • Company /Department
  • Names
  • Role responsibilities
  • Measurable expectations
  • Duration of role
  • Sign off in agreement of responsibilities
