In Example 7.15, we found that the probability that a woman with two children either has two girls or two boys is .5002. What is the probability that she has one child of each sex?
Example 7.15
A computer solitaire game uses a standard 52-card deck and randomly shuffles the cards for play. Theoretically, it should be possible to find optimal strategies for playing and then to compute the probability of winning based on the best strategy. Not only would this be an extremely complicated problem, but also the probability of winning for any particular person depends on that person’s skill. Explain how an individual could determine his or her probability of winning this game.
